Pay

You will be paid at the end of the photo shoot.

I pay by the hour from when you are ready to get in front of the camera until we are done with the shoot. It is my responsibility to be ready to start at the agreed upon start time. If I am not ready, I will pay as if we started at that time---i.e., if the delay is my fault, I will pay as if I was ready. If the delay is your fault, pay starts when you are ready.

We will discuss the pay rate before you leave for the location. If things are going well and we both agree, we may decide to "bump up" the nudity level (and pay rate) of the shot. I will only ask once to avoid putting pressure on you. You can also ask to change the level (either direction).

I earn money by selling photographs. The amount I will be paying is related to the amount I believe that I can make by selling the photos. Without a model release, I am severely limited in my ability to sell the photo.

Time for prints I will happily provide you with professional, high-quality prints at my cost, or we can trade prints for your time. I will also provide you with a CD of watermarked digital images that are the best from the photo shoot for half of what I would have paid you for the photo shoot. You can use these digital photos for self-promotion; you cannot sell or re-license them to others. Time for prints is also a way for you to build a portfolio and modeling experience. It is not appropriate as the only compensation for photos that I expect to be using commercially.

Travel costs If we travel to a remote site (outside the Albuquerque metropolitan area or outside the area near your base of operations in the event we are working away from Albuquerque), I will cover reasonable travel costs if you provide your own transportation. In the case of sites in New Mexico, this normally means mileage at the IRS rate. For longer shots where we are on site for several days, I will be covering hotel as well.

Hair and Makeup

The general rule is that if it is visible in the photo that you are wearing makeup, you are wearing too much. Unless we have discussed this ahead of time, you are responsible for your hair and makeup. We will discuss ahead of time any special requirements for your hair.

Food I will provide water, and I may have snacks available depending on the expected length of the photo shoot. For longer shots where we are on site for several days, I will cover food.

Chaperones

Discuss this with me ahead of time. You may want to bring a friend with whom you will be comfortable. Note that significant others (SOs) may not be the best choice, as we want to avoid problems with jealousy. You know your friends/SO better than I.

I am likely to bring an assistant who helps with props, lighting, poses, and does general "go-fer" tasks.

Comfort

It is my goal that you be comfortable throughout the photo shoot. If the location is indoors, then the temperature will be whatever you want it to be. If you are too warm or cool, please let me know and I or the assistant will change the temperature.

If you are uncomfortable with an instruction, stop the shoot so we can talk about it. If you decide you are uncomfortable with the level of undress, we can either change to a different level or end the shoot.

For the photo shoot, you can expect me to act professionally at all times, and I expect the same from you.

Clothing

Tight clothing (especially undergarments) often leaves marks that can take an hour or more to disappear. If the shoot involves nudity, please change to loose clothing at least an hour before the shoot is to start. In the photo to the right, the wait was not long enough. Notice especially the lines through the navel, as well as a few inches below it.

We will discuss any clothing you need to bring ahead of time. In general, the following points apply:

• Do not buy new clothing for the photo shoot, unless we have discussed it ahead of time. I want clothing that you feel comfortable in and that you feel makes you look good.
• Choose clothing that is darker than your skin. This will help me with exposures.

If we are doing work involving some level of nudity, you might want to bring a robe to wear when we are not shooting.

Photo locations

We will discuss the location ahead of time so you can know what to expect and be prepared for getting to the location.

Most of my photos are taken outdoors. Often, we will work at either dawn or sunset. For shots involving some level of nudity, we will normally be working in a place where people will be scarce, but it is always possible that someone will wander by. This is another reason for bringing a robe.

Some of the outdoor photography will take place in caves. They are cool (sometimes cold), and the floor may be rough. You may need to bring appropriate footwear for the cave. If you are not already a caver, I will provide any needed caving gear such as lights and helmets and any special clothing for the photo shoot. You will need to provide your own boots and other clothing to wear while traveling in the cave.

Rarely, the shot may be in a private house or a photography studio.

Your age

You must be at least 18 years old if any nudity is involved.

DOMAI-style

The focus of the photo is the beauty of the model, and not intended to be erotic. What I want for this type of photo closely matches what DOMAI wants. There are several examples of this type of photos at the DOMAI gallery and Simple nudes.

artistic nudes

The photo does not look like a person who just took off her (his) clothes. The lighting, pose, perspective, framing, texture, etc are carefully chosen. Think of landscapes where the "land" is a body. Examples elsewhere on the web include: Fine art nudes; work by Lindsay Garrett, Jean Vallette, and Michael Vahle; and many of the photos at Michelle7 (membership site).

figure nude or figure study

The photo emphasizes the shape of the body, and the model is well-lit and identifiable, but with a neutral facial expression. I have some projects looking at the effect of different poses on the parts of the body, and they fall into this category.

erotic nude

The photo emphasizes the sexual nature of the model. The pose and/or facial expression may be provocative. Examples include Erotisme féminin.

We will discuss any of these before we start the shoot. The default style is DOMAI-style.

Nobody has a perfect body. It is my job to show you in a flattering way. My goal is photos that you would be proud to show.

How your images will be used

The photos I take will be used for one or more of the following purposes:

• Showing potential customers or models examples of my work. This may include posting on the Internet.
• Selling the photos to magazines, newspapers, and web sites.
• To promote a product---i.e., advertising.

If you are uncomfortable with any of these, we can discuss them. Any restrictions on the use of the photos needs to be in writing on the model release, and will cause the pay rate to be reduced (the amount depends on the restrictions).
